Treetop Oasis in Minneapolis

Older homes are the best, arent’t they?

Maybe we should clarify: in terms of unique details and amazing woodwork, they can’t be rivaled. In terms of pre-existing conditions, surprises and cost to remodel…. well, unfortunately they can’t be rivaled there either.

Lisa La Nasa, laNeva Tile’s fearless leader had the opportunity to work on a beauty of a 1907 4-Square home in Minneapolis’ Kenwood neighborhood not once but twice. In 2006-07 she designed the remodel for the lower level laundry room and 3/4 bath. In 2011 she was called back to design a master suite in the semi-finished-then-gutted attic space. The owners wanted spa-like spaces tucked under the eaves while keeping the original windows and adding a rooftop deck to gaze among the treetops. Oh, wouldn’t those leafy treetops be grand this time of year!

The bedroom and closet are incredible, the refurbished windows are enchanting but the bathroom is divine. laNeva’s 4″x8″ Modico Tile in a straight stack was used for the majority of the shower and the bathroom baseboard. The sink splash is Modico 2″x8′ straight stack. The crisp white glaze of laNeva’s ceramic pops against natural gray grout and an array of turquoise-gray mesh-mounted pebbles, which were inexpensively sourced from a local big-box store.

The contractors, Metamorphosis Design-Build, did an excellent job with the preexisting conditions- a mess of hand-built trusses, major electrical challenges and a previously installed geo-thermal system to name a few- and also designed and constructed the exterior deck.  You can see more of the ‘after’ pics when you visit the Metamorphosis site. Scroll down on their site to see all of the photos.

Our resources included an array of Minnesota-based small businesses. Here are a few:

  • Wood From The Hood provided Minneapolis Elm for the hardwood floors and bathroom countertop.
  • Andy’s Woodworking custom built the bathroom and bedroom cabinetry.
  • Storganize designed and built the closet storage, including their attic hanging systems which are suspended from the sloped ceilings.
  • MN Window Restoration removed and repaired/rebuilt 7 original windows.
Of course, any remodel is a team effort. We are thankful for the fabulous homeowners, dedicated Design-Build team at Metamorphosis and all the hard working subcontractors and suppliers. We are proud to not only be a part, but to have had the opportunity to see our second project for this family from the very beginning to the end result – and for laNeva’s Modico 4″x8″ field tile to find a beautiful ‘new’ home.

SPAN Field Tile Patterns- Squares

Last week we announced our newest collection of field tile patterns called SPAN (to go along with our Lineal & Slice Collections of Borders) and showed you SPAN patterns using laNeva’s rectangular tiles.  Some fun layouts were included with our favorite being the 3 pattern options using our 1×6 liner. Fab-u-lous!

As promised, we are following up with the squares. It’s hip to be square (had to throw that in there!) and we see a huge resurgence in the market for square tiles. So without further delay, we bring to you:

SPAN Collection – Squares

All pattern drawings show one square foot of each layout. For those of you super-savy readers (of which you ALL are!) note that the patterns on the left and right of each tile size are the same with the left shown as a horizontal running bond and the right, vertical.

And a laNeva insider- update for people who read to the end of each post:

Within the coming week, you’ll see a few changes to the laNeva site, with our new collections (including this one) added to the “Our Tiles” tab.  Have questions? Check out the FAQ’s or contact us for more details.  We love to hear from laNeva Tile fans!

XOXOXO,

The Alternative Tile Layout- Vertical

We’ve linked to Houzz Ideabooks in the past but today we want to share a collection of photos that illustrate our favorite point: You CAN and SHOULD use rectangular tiles vertically!  Here is a beautiful visual collection of vertical tile installations. Choose any of laNeva’s mesh-mounted SPAN field tile patterns, released last week, to achieve the same fresh, dramatic look.

SPAN Field Tile Patterns – Rectangles

While announcing our Lineal and Slice Collections last month, there was a request for a similar grouping of mesh mounted field tile layouts.  While there are a ton of different options, we have chosen some standard and not-so-standard layout patterns to feature.

Announcing laNeva Tile’s field tile pattern collection: SPAN

The SPAN pattern collection includes groupings of rectangular and square tiles.  Today’s release includes all of laNeva’s rectangular mesh mounted field tile layouts. You choose 1×2, 2×4,  3×6 tile and even our 1×6 liners!

SPAN patterns using our square tiles will be announced next week.

Each Span Collection layout is mesh mounted for ease of installation and sold per square foot. With the addition of SPAN  to the Lineal and Slice border collections, we offer a mix-and-match (or create your own, if you wish) system for complete material selections!
