[laNeva News] Product Launch: laNeva SK8 Patterns

In our last post, we detailed how laNeva Tile is partnering with like-minded companies and artisans to create tile designs and patterns that are greater than the sum of their parts. Dynamic, interesting, never seen before combinations that we think are pretty spectacular (can you tell?!?!)

This collaboration concept was born this past summer and was first evident with the laNeva GLASS tile launch in October. After working to refine and precisely plan our multi-media tile collaboration, we are launching today:

laNeva Tile & SK8 Tile by Art of Board

Art of Board is an incredible company that not only uses recycled skateboard decks to create graphic, functional wall tile, they also coordinate nationwide collection of used skateboard decks through their organization I Ride I Recycle and support several local and national charities.

SK8 tiles are hand cut from 100% recycled skate decks. Every scratch, scrape and gouge is kept intact – making them truly original. Each tile has its own story. They’re alive with texture, shape and color. Together, they bring that story to life in every space they inhabit – creating a vibrant visual experience in the home, retail or commercial environment.

Without further delay, here are just the starting two of our SK8 designs, featuring laNeva’s new L-shaped handmade ceramic tile and Art of Board recycled skateboard tiles:

The Future of laNeva Tile

You will see a shift in laNeva Artisan Tile

In the coming weeks, we’re rolling out some changes ’round here. Starting with an updated logo and website, we are working on a cleaner  look with added site functionality and an indepth behind-the-curtain view of laNeva Tile.  We’ll talk about (and show you) our process, how we make & design our gorgeous handmade tile and you’ll also see the launch of our online shop.

Secondly, we’re so completely excited, we’re nearly jumping from our seats! There are two fresh, new product lines we’re pairing with laNeva ceramics, with the official launch dates over the next two months.  These tile materials have been meticulously designed by us and are available only through laNeva, our reps and showrooms.

laNeva GLASS Tile Launch

Mid September will be the debut of our new laNeva GLASS tile, designed by laNeva to coordinate with our ceramics and made by the incredible glass artist Peter Zelle in Minneapolis.  Ours is a very textural, layered and fused glass tile, available in 8 color combinations and made to order.  These tiles have a dynamic juxtaposition of color and incredible depth that cannot be matched by anything else we’ve seen. These are not mosaics, we are going BOLD.  Our sizes for laNeva GLASS are 4″x4″, 4″x 8″, 4″x 12″ and 8″x8″ (with a possible 12″x 12″ as well).

Mid October Will Launch Another Product Pairing

While the details are still being finalized, we’re working with another great company to create laNeva fusion tile patterns. These are funky, unexpected material groupings,  textures and a playful approach to traditional mesh-mounted borders and field tile layouts.

A New laNeva Ceramic SHAPE

We also have a new laNeva ceramic tile shape to release in October, perfectly engineered to work with these new materials and patterns. Is anyone else doing this? We certainly don’t think so.

Our goal is to provide a completely unique offering of tile products handmade in the USA. We’re pairing ceramic, glass and other materials in fresh, funky, exciting ways, all made for and designed by laNeva Tile. We’re luxury, but not elitist tile! As a professional interior designer, I know that the most dynamic tile designs are often a mix from several sources. We’re bringing those sources and options here, to laNeva Artisan Tile!

Announcing the 2011 “IT” Colors!

Thanks to all of you who voted in the poll to choose our three limited edition glaze colors for 2011. We had a great response and after some changes in rank through the first day, the winners were soon evident and stayed on top through the remainder of the voting.

Announcing the winning colors (Drumroll is so passé. How about a rockin’ foot stomp?)….

#1: With 33% of the vote and already a pre-order: Laguna!

#2: Anything but boring, gray is hot, especially with these brights: Smoke!

#3: Rounding out the top three: “She uses Tangerine(s)!!”*

These colors will be available for samples and orders on Monday, May 2nd.  We’re also planning fabulous Rift Series color combos with these new glazes used in conjunction with our existing Solid Colors.  Thanks again everyone and we look forward to another exciting product launch coming in the very near future!

How will handmade tile accent your life?

The Non-Toxic Dilemma…

A choice we made upon starting laNeva Tile: All of our glazes must be lead-free and rated as AP-non-toxic. All of them. No exceptions.

Okay, here’s the dilemma: While the industry is reformulating many glazes to be lead-free, there are still a lot of glazes out there with lead and cadmium in them or they are still considered a “toxic” glaze (or rather, not “non-toxic) because they contain other elements with a known health risk.

There is yet another problem when the glazes meet the non-toxic requirements when used as a brushed-on glaze, but not when sprayed.  Inhalation risks are great with sprayed glazes and any dry glazes. Lead-free or not. (Spraying is not an issue for us because we brush all of our glazes. Glaze overspray isn’t good for people or the environment, period.)

An even further problem is that some of the coolest, richest, most dramatic glaze colors are made from heavy metals, including lead and cadmium, the exact elements that make these tiles not fit with our business model.

We have an awesome (and I don’t use that word lightly) launch coming up and we’re working on glaze formulations and selections like madwomen* here. The challenge is to find glaze formulas that create gorgeous laNeva-worthy colors that all fit in with our lead free and non-toxic glaze model. So, stick around for a truly fabulous, richest, bestest new glaze color launch you ever did see – all lead free and non-toxic – early next week.

*Yes, for those of you wondering, we are all women at laNeva Tile ;)

The Slice Collection Release

We’ve had a great week with a new Lineal Collection border launch each day.  Now, for the final tie-in, a component piece. The Slice Collection is for those who may just want a splash of gorgeous handmade tile, or those who want to add another detail to their laNeva Lineal Border or solid color handmade field tile.

The Slice Collection is a ribbon of mesh-mounted tile, using 2×2 or 3×3 square Rift tiles, or those sizes along with their coordinating rectangle sizes.

We introduce the Slice Collection and a few of its variations:

2x2 Slice "A" shown in #90 Oregano / #61 Sky

2x2 Slice "B" Shown in #90 Oregano/#61 Sky

(All drawings and photos above show 2 lineal feet of Slice design each.)

With any of these layouts, you choose to have horizontal (A) or vertical (B) Rift tiles (with Rift color divisions shown as dotted lines in the drawings above).

Slice using only square tiles is available using 2″x 2″ or 3″x 3″ tiles.

Slice using square and rectangular tiles is available in combinations of 3×3/3×6 OR 2×2/2×4 and is a smaller version of our Rift Valley Lineal border pattern released this past week.

Of course, the Slice Collection components are available using any standard combination of our handmade Rift Series tiles.

If you are looking for a simple border, use any of colors with any layout variation as a listello insert within a larger tile wall design.  If you just want a touch of tile, use these alone, with an overglazed (finished) top edge for a  ribbon of tile at a backsplash.  Want to create a large, dramatic design? Use a Slice accent as a secondary detail along with our Rift Valley Lineal border.  The possibilities are endless!

Lineal Border Collection Finale: Day 6

This is the final day of our week-long Lineal Collection border launch, and we are so excited to show you this incredible border design!

The second of two Lineal Collection borders using our Rift Series tiles, this utilizes laNeva’s unique 2-color tile in a whole new and previously unavailable way– BIG! This is our very first time offering 4″x4″ laNeva Rift Series tiles, and oh, they are gorgeous!

Each Rift tile is handmade, hand glazed and completely unique.  There is a natural chemical reaction that occurs at the overlap line of the two glaze colors and depending on the glazes used, this reaction may create bubbles, a muted color blending or a third color entirely.  To learn more about our Rift tiles and the name, check out our blog post on the Rift.

Are you ready for our final Lineal Collection design?  We present to you, Rift Valley.

(If you want an up close and personal view, click on any image)

A more delicate border overall but with big impact, this one measures approximately 6″ H. It’s softly undulating, organic Rift pattern creates a division point reminiscent of the horizon.

Rift Valley is shown here using the following laNeva Solid Colors:

  • 1″x 6″  & 1/2″x 6″  liner bars at top and bottom: #68 Twilight
  • 1″x2″ random insert at bottom: #68 Twilight
  • 4″x4″  & 2″x 4″ Rift Tiles: #95 Lichen/ #68 Twilight

Finished with a sand colored grout.

This border measures approximately 6″ tall, 3/8″ thick and is sold mesh mounted in 12″ lengths.  The Rift tiles and bottom border pieces are randomly placed with no true repeat.

One method to create a completely different look with Rift Valley is to use #95 Lichen as the border accent in place of Twilight, or switch the colorway entirely to a different Rift Tile, but we don’t know why you’d do that since this is so fabulous and full of character!  Our other beautiful Rift Tile colors are as follows:

Here’s the rundown of this past week and the new Lineal Collection borders:

And finally, if you want the lowdown on our Lineal Collection, here’s how it works:

laNeva Tile’s “Lineal” border collection is a series of 6 pre-designed, mesh-mounted borders of our most popular patterns. Since you choose the colors and combinations, your border can be as contemporary or traditional as you’d like. We provide detailed drawings and you personalize the design with our choice of any of our solid color glazes(or Rift glazes for Woven Rift and Rift Valley).

Thanks for joining us on this week-long product launch adventure!  We have ONE more big announcement for Monday that ties in directly to today’s post. Stick around for one more exciting Rift product perfect for those who may just want a splash of handmade tile. See you Monday!

Lineal Border Launch: Day 5

For Day 5 and 6 of our Lineal Collection border launch, we are switching gears and focusing on Lineal designs that use our Rift Series (2-color) tiles.

laNeva offers six standard Rift Series color combinations and we are proud to showcase these fun, unexpected tiles. Each Rift tile is completely unique, with a natural chemical reaction occurring at the overlap line of the two glazes.  The glaze combinations may create bubbles, a muted color blending or a third color entirely.  To learn more about our Rift tiles and the name, check out our blog post on the Rift.

So without further ado, we present our next Lineal Collection border pattern, Woven Rift.

(If you want an up close and personal view, click on any image)

Another big border, this one is stunning in its character and simplicity. Reminiscent of a herringbone, the pattern takes laNeva’s 2-color Rift tiles and randomly alternates them to create a woven-look.

Woven Rift is shown here using the following laNeva Solid Colors:

  • 1″x 6″ liner bars at top and bottom: #71 Dune
  • 2″x 2″ Rift Tiles: #61 Sky/#90 Oregano

Finished with a sand colored grout.

This border measures approximately 10-1/2″ tall, 3/8″ thick and is sold mesh mounted in 12″ lengths.  The Rift tiles alternate, but there is no true repeat.

One method to create a completely different look with Woven Rift is to insert a random accent Rift tile.  Christopher’s Baths & Kitchens in Englewood, Colorado displays a laNeva Woven Rift board where we have inserted a few #71 Dune/#84 Scarlet Rift tiles into an overall pattern of Christopher’s exclusive Rift colorway #71 Dune/#24 Steel.  The design is capped with a #31 Snow liner bar and completed with 3×6 tile in #71 Dune.  (Please note that the Christopher’s border is a half-tile-height shorter than the Lineal Collection design shown above).

If you prefer more sophisticated, reserved tile borders, check out day 1 and 2 releases Bamboo Forest and Herringbone Classico. Are you modern and like bold colors with lots of contrast? Then Marching Orders and Composition Six are for you.

We provide the detailed drawings and the color examples and you personalize the design with our choice of any of our solid color glazes. It’s still a custom design made just for you, but with no pricing surprises and a faster lead time.

Tomorrow is our finale – one final, beautiful Lineal Collection border that ties into another Rift Series product announcement. The suspense is too much!! See you tomorrow!

Lineal Border Launch: Day 2

Yesterday we introduced you to the Lineal Collection of borders and our first design, Bamboo Forest.  We are keeping with the more transitional designs today and featuring another of our widely popular borders, Herringbone Classico.

A bit tongue-in-cheek, this herringbone is thoroughly modern with its impressively-chunky 10″ height and random color layout. Herringbone Classico is shown here using the following laNeva Solid Colors:

  • 1″ x 6″ horizontal liner bars used at the top & bottom: #24 Steel
  • 1″ x 2″ & 1″ x 1″ random tile: #77 Café, #71 Dune

Finished with a sand colored grout.

This border measures approximately 10″ tall, 3/8″ thick and is sold mesh mounted in 12″ lengths.  There is a 4″ pattern repeat on the body of the design, but all colors are randomly placed.

While these neutral colors are quite at home in both a modern loft or more traditional space, for a completely different look (how about Retro!) try a combination of #73 Butter, #77 Café and  #92 Mist Crackle (shown below) or choose any of laNeva’s Solid Color tiles.

If you didn’t catch yesterday’s release, see Bamboo Forest here. If you want the Cliff notes on our Lineal Collection and how it works:

laNeva Tile’s “Lineal” border collection is a series of 6 pre-designed, mesh-mounted borders of our most popular patterns. Since you choose the colors and combinations, your border can be as contemporary or traditional as you’d like.

We provide the detailed drawings and the color examples and you personalize the design with our choice of any of our solid color glazes. It’s still a custom design made just for you, but with no pricing surprises and a faster lead time. What’s not to like with that?

Another Lineal Collection border will be featured tomorrow, and each day this week. Stay tuned. Our border collection is anything but boring!

laNeva News: December 2010

December already. Wow. So much has been going on behind the scenes recently at laNeva Artisan Tile. We have some exciting changes to announce for the end of 2010 and the start of 2011!

  • PARTNERS: laNeva is thrilled to announce our newest partners in the tile biz: Spacial Adaptation, who will be representing our tile nationally, along with a host of other amazing earth-friendly products.
  • BOLD BORDERS: We’ve been hard at work on our LINEAL Border Collection of 6 large, pre-designed tile borders, along with our delicate SLICE Accessories Collection based off of our Rift Series tiles. Please stay tuned, our next post will be to announce the launch of these fabulous customize-or-not designs! You can choose one of our suggested color palettes or customize to your liking using our any of our standard glazes.
  • THE CART IS DEAD: As you may have noticed, we are no longer offering our online shopping cart. While it was a flashy sales avenue, it became evident that with so many custom designs, an online order venue was just not relevant.  It is kind of nice to know that humans are still needed, in both the production and order placement!
  • SAMPLES,  ANYONE? We are working to implement online sample orders, without all the cumbersome cart features that we experienced with our online shopping.
  • PRIVACY, PLEASE! Another feature on to be implemented in early 2011 is a password-protected section of the site for our dealers and members of the trade.

As we continue to explore new and exciting ways to use our Rift and solid color tiles, we look forward to being a part of your lives in 2011.  Thanks for all your love and support in 2010. Happy Holidays!
